At Midcoast Midwifery we believe that birth is a sacred and unique experience for each woman, baby, and family. Striving to honor this uniqueness and build strong client relationships, we provide individualized Midwifery care through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

As practitioners, we are deeply invested in the preservation of Midwives and homebirth, acknowledging the important roles they have played throughout time. Through practicing the traditional art of Midwifery we hope to increase knowledge and respect for reproductive processes and help foster strong and healthy women, families and communities.

The Midwives:

Becky Pelchat, CPM

Becky has been certified by the North American Registry of Midwives as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) since 2008. She attended and graduated from Birthwise Midwifery School. During her training she apprenticed in a busy midwifery practice in Florida and attended births at home and in a freestanding birth center. She traveled to Bali at the end of her apprenticeship and volunteered at a rural, nonprofit birth center. Becky is excited about providing reproductive health options to women and supporting babies, as gently as possible, through their growth and transition from the womb.

Jenna Schmitz, CPM

Jenna is a Certified Professional Midwife, as accredited by the North American Registry of Midwifery (NARM). She graduated from Birthwise Midwifery School and received her credentialing in 2008. As a student, she trained primarily in Austin TX. Additional clinical rotations included working with various Midwives in Maine, TX and NH and in the following birth centers: Concord Birth and Wellness Center (NH), Casa de Nacimiento (TX) and the Maternity Clinic of Darou Kudos (Senegal). Jenna has been attending births in some capacity since 2004, began her homebirth practice in 2008 and co-founded Midcoast Midwifery with Becky Pelchat in 2010.
